Mumbai: Students who have completed Class XII through private boards wish to seek admissions for professional courses in degree colleges. While, authorities of degree colleges claim they want to increase the number of seats as they want to accommodate students of both state and private boards.

Students of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) are waiting to secure admission for Undergraduate (UG) courses in degree colleges but admissions have not started yet. The admissions will begin only after results of state board are declared.

Professional or vocational courses are a good option as large number of students have scored above 90 per cent, claimed students. Vindhya Barwal, a student, said, “We have scored more than 90 per cent and we wish to secure seats for professional courses. We want to opt for courses like Bachelor of Finance Management (BFM) or Management Studies (BMS) instead of studying the regular commerce (BCom) programme.”

On the other hand, students of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) fear they will not get admissions as seats for professional courses will be filled by private board students. Shantanu Das, a student, said, “We have not got our results yet but our friends of private boards are already preparing for admissions to UG programmes. We hope degree colleges allot seats for state board students too.”

A principal of a suburban college said, “We are planning to increase seats, courses and UG programmes as it is the only primary platform where students of all boards want to secure admissions. We do not want students of state board to be deprived of the opportunity to study a professional course due to lack of seats.”
