Mumbai: The Vanrai police have dismantled a child trafficking gang and arrested four persons for allegedly kidnapping a 38-day-old infant to sell in Mumbai. The arrested individuals have been identified as Raju More, 47, an auto-rickshaw driver, Mangal More, 35, a housekeeper; Fatima Sheikh, 37, and Mohammad Khan, 42, a plumber.

About The Case

The incident took place in Goregaon East near the railway station on March 2, when the infant was reported missing from a footpath. The parents – Suresh and Soni Salat – sell blankets for a living. They missed their train to Vasai and were sleeping on the footpath when the accused allegedly stole the child. Acting on intelligence and technical surveillance, the police tracked down the suspects and successfully rescued the baby.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act. The accused, who are allegedly a part of an organised child trafficking racket, have been remanded in police custody. It is being investigated whether more people are involved in the operation.
