In a shocking incident, a 41-year-old woman was allegedly raped by Ujjain-based godman and extorted Rs 3.5 lakh from her and her husband on the pretext of curing their son of cancer through rituals. The Trombay police are now on the lookout for the godman.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the couple’s son who was 10-year-old passed away last year. The woman’s husband is a scientist and both live in Chembur. Though the couple is well educated, both are highly religious. A police officer told the leading daily, “The couple was devasted after their only son was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. The child was admitted to a hospital, but his parents were not satisfied with the treatment. In May 2017, the boy’s mother met the godman at a temple. She approached the godman and narrated her ordeal to him. The godman promised to cure the illness through some rituals.”
Later after few days the godman came to woman’s house and carried out a yajna, during which the woman asked the child to consume some holy ash, but after consuming it the mother-son duo fell unconscious. They both regained conscious after some time and found the godman still there in the house. The godman then told them that it was done and the child will be fine, after which he allegedly took some jewelry worth Rs 60,000 and left the house.
The accused again contacted the woman again after a few days and told her that he has detected some more complications in her son. The accused asked her to visit him at Andheri flat where he was staying. After reaching the flat, the woman alleged that the godman sexually assaulted her, claiming that it is a part of the ritual. The accused also recorded the act on camera and clicked pictures of the woman.
The accused used those pictures to blackmail the woman and extort money from her. The scared woman didn’t tell her husband about the incident. The godman later took Rs 2.98 lakh from the woman’s husband on the pretext of performing some rituals. The godman allegedly kept on extorting money from the couple even after the 10-year-old passed away last year. The woman got fed-up of the blackmailing and she finally told her husband about the incident, after which they both filed a complaint with the police against the godman. The Trombay police have booked the accused under Sections of 376 (rape), 354(a) (sexual harassment), 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and under relevant sections of the black magic Act and have sent a team to Ujjain to find the accused.
