On Tuesday, a constable attached with Samta Nagar police station was booked by the Vanrai police in Goregaon for allegedly assaulting and raping a 37-year-old woman who used to teach him English a few years back.
According to the Hindustan Times, the accused was identified as Hemkant Bacchav (27). The accused met the woman in 2014 and asked her to teach him English so that he could take the exam to become a police sub-inspector. The accused used that as a reason to become friends with the victim. A police officer told the leading daily, “The accused then tried to get physically intimate with her but when she resisted, he raped her. The accused allegedly physically and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.”
The woman told the cops that she met the accused for the first time in Dahisar in 2014. She met the accused in January to collect money which the accused owed her, during which the accused assaulted her. The woman then approached the police. The woman did not reveal that the accused had raped her before. It was during the investigation that the police found out that the accused raped her multiple times. The cops have booked the constable for rape and voluntarily causing hurt along with criminal intimidation.
