On Monday, a 35-year-old man was arrested by the Andheri government railway police (GRP) for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old woman inside a train.
According to Hindustan Times, the accused also allegedly beat the woman’s cousin and pushed him off the train when he tried to intervene. The accused has been identified as Sachin Sawant. The incident took place in a train headed towards Borivli when the woman and her cousin boarded the luggage compartment at Dadar station. The woman told cops that the luggage compartment was crowded, and that the man (accused) held her hand and touched her leg without her consent. After that, the accused kept on staring at her and smiling.
Later, after the incident, the woman informed her cousin about the incident and told him that they would get down at the next station and move to the adjacent compartment. But when the train was stopping at Vile Parle station, the accused started abusing the woman’s cousin and pushed him on the tracks. The woman quickly helped her cousin and moved to the adjacent compartment, and by the time the train reached Borivli, the passengers in the luggage compartment held the accused and helped the woman and her cousin to take him to the GRP. The accused was drunk so he did not resist. Later, the woman filed a complaint at Borivli GRP and the case was transferred to Andheri GRP. The GRP officials are investigating the case and scanning the CCTV footages.
