On Wednesday, a 23-year-old man was arrested by Deonar police for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl. According to Mumbai Mirror, on January 12, the girl’s parents lodged a missing person complaint with the police, and acting on it the police registered a case of kidnapping. But three days later, the girl, a student of class IX, came back home and told her parents that she had gone with a neighbour.
An official of Deonar police told the leading daily, “The accused had taken the girl to Nashik, where his step-mother lives. The girl revealed to her mother that she had physical relations with the accused when they were away.” During investigation, the cops found that the accused was trying to befriend the girl for the past some time, and a few days ago he started asking her if she would like to join him on a trip. The accused under this plan took the girl to Nashik.
The cops, after getting the complaint, circulated a picture of the accused among the residents in the neighbourhood. They got to know that the accused lived very close to the chawl where the victim lived. After the tip-off, the police arrested the accused.
