Mumbai Crime: 13-year-old boy kidnaps toddler, cops track him down in 24 hours

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by the Shivaji Park police for allegedly kidnapping a one-and-a-half-year-old baby.

According to Mid-Day, the police were able to arrest the accused in 24 hours after the child’s disappearance was reported by his mother. The one-and-a-half-year-old boy’s mother told the cops that the incident took place on March 7, when the 13-year-old took the baby out for playing and never returned. Later, the mother went to the police station and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, the cops registered a case under section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC.

After the case was registered, the cops began scanning the CCTV footage in the area and found out that the 13-year-old boy took a local train to Kalyan and later found that he was spotted at Ghansoli. A police team was sent to Ghansoli and Thane, Navi Mumbai police stations were alerted about the incident. But around 6 pm on March 8, the Kalwa police informed that they found a one-and-a-half-year-old boy which matched the description and a team with the mother rushed to Kalwa police to identify the kid.

In the meanwhile, the 13-year-old kidnapper, who returned to Dadar, was caught by the police. During the investigation, the 13-year-old confessed to the crime and said that he did that after the infant’s mother yelled at him for playing with the one-and-a-half-year-old baby. The accused told the cops that he abandoned the kid at Mafatlal hutment in Kalwa.
