In a first, on Sunday a Mumbai’s holiday court ordered 47 men to donate money — Rs 3,000 each — deposited as bail bond to an orphanage in Badlapur. The men were arrested for allegedly showering money on bar girls.
According to Indian Express, the 47 men were caught in a raid at Indiana Bar and Restaurant in Tardeo on Saturday night. On Sunday afternoon when they were produced in a holiday court they pleaded clemency for them with Magistrate Sabina Malik, but the judge wasn’t so keen about letting those arrested men so lightly. The arrested men included bar’s manager, staff and customers, most of them were local residents but some from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
The Magistrate was of the view that men must at least spend a day behind bars so that they and their families could understand the nature of the crime committed. Initially the Magistrate ordered the men to be jailed but their lawyers pleaded for their release. Later the Magistrate and defence lawyers debated on how to best utilise their bail bonds. After arguments, the Magistrate picked a orphanage named Satkarma Balakashram in Badlapur and in her order she directed the offenders to deposit Rs 3,000 each with the police which will be deposited to the orphanage.
