Mumbai: City sees drop in vax numbers, only 42% got the jab on Thursday

On Thursday, the number of beneficiaries who took the jab at Covid vaccine centres across the city dropped by 42%. According to BMC data, 64,379 beneficiaries were inoculated in the last 24 hours, as compared to 1,11,110 on Wednesday. Of this, 48,087 were between 18 and 44 years of age, followed by 12 lactating mothers who had taken the jab. Moreover, 966 beneficiaries were administered Sputnik V vaccine at private centres as part of its pilot project.

So far, 48.59 lakh beneficiaries have been vaccinated since the mass Immunization drive began. Out of this, 39.20 lakh have taken the first dose, while 9.39 lakh have taken both the doses.

Additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani said the vaccination drive is picking up pace. “We have more than one lakh vaccine doses. The adult population is keen on taking a vaccine as most of them are going abroad for studies,” he said. -
