Bhayandar: Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik has reiterated the demands seeking change in land use on behalf of the freedom fighters whose families live in Navghar, Bhayandar (east). Sarnaik made this appeal at a Republic Day (Saturday) event before the state education minister, Vinod Tawde, during the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the “Freedom Fighters Memorial” in Navghar, a village in Bhayandar (east).
The village has earned a unique distinction of producing over 40 freedom fighters whose descendants, mostly farmers, possess land in Pardha, which falls under the no-development zone (NDZ).
The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has already been in a catch-22 over applications by the irate families, seeking relaxations similar to an ultra-luxurious club developed for the rich in Mira Road by the close aides of the region’s political bigwig. The families have sought the change in land use so they are allowed constructions on the NDZ to accommodate extended families.
