After the CSMT bridge collapse, the Central Railway (CR) is likely to dismantle seven FOBs which are more than 50 years old.
According to Mumbai Mirror, on Monday, the IIT Bombay submitted a report on 30 Central Railway FOBs. The report is currently being studied by the railways and will start repairs as per the findings. A railway official told the leading daily that, “The reports have not asked for a shutdown of many FOBs – we have already shut down bridges that the report mentions should be examined.”
Another officer told the leading daily that, how many bridges will be dismantled is yet to be decided, “but prima facie, including two FOBs at Thane station, the number will go up to seven.” Further, he added that a few FOBs of them are already being closed for passenger use.
On Central Railway there are around 190 FOBs on its entire suburban network. It consists of 99 FOBs between CSMT and Kalyan; 38 between CSMT and Mankhurd; 4 from Mahim to Kings Circle; 12 between Kalyan and Kasara; 16 from Kalyan to Karjat; 4 from Diva to Vasai; 7 between Diva and Panvel, 2 between Panvel and Karjat; and 8 between Panvel and Roha.
