Mumbai: Maharashtra NCC Cadets put up an impressive display of Guard of Honour at Azad Maidan on Thursday morning to commemorate NCC Raising Day. It was witnessed by Sports & Education Minister of Maharashtra also the Chief Guest for the occasion and other dignitaries including Additional Directorate General NCC Directorate Maharashtra, Vice Chancellors and many civil and military officials. The NCC cadets showcased well-orchestrated skills in Section Battle Drill, Aero Modelling, Semaphore, Weapon Display and cultural activity at the venue.
The Chief Minister Banner was earlier awarded to NCC Group Pune by the visiting dignitary in a separate programme on 04 Feb at Sahayadri Guest House and the Runners up Trophy to Kolhapur Group. Every year, cadets of the seven groups of Maharashtra NCC Directorate viz. Mumbai ‘A’, Mumbai ‘B’, Pune, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Nagpur and Amravati compete in various competitions for the prestigious Chief Minister’s Banner.
Mumbai University banner was awarded to Sathaye College, and Vice Chancellor’s banner for SNDT university was awarded to MD Shah Women’s College, Malad from SNDT university for their outstanding contribution in NCC activities. In addition to congratulating the Maharashtra NCC fraternity for the NCC Day, the Chief Guest applauded the performance of cadets of Republic Day Contingent and congratulated the team on finishing as second runners up for the prestigious PM’s banner.
He made a special mention for the award winning cadets which included Cadet Rishaan Hemady (Army wing) & Cadet Kartikay Gautam (Air wing) who were adjudged all India Best Cadets. in Senior Division whereas Cadet Sagar Mugale from Maharashtra Directorate who had the rare distinction to lead the all India NCC Contingent at Rajpath on 26 Jan 2019 at New Delhi.
The Chief Guest took the opportunity to interact with the NCC cadets and answered their various queries. He urged personnel of the Directorate to rededicate themselves to follow the true traditions and customs of NCC and ensure that the young cadets were groomed and nurtured with qualities like discipline, leadership, secular outlook and selfless service to the country.
