Mumbai: With the arrest of four persons, including two boys, Pydhonie police claims to have busted a gang of cellphone thieves. Notably, the boys used to steal the valuables, mainly mobiles, from the houses and sell it to the accused at Rs5,000.
Then, the accused used to change the IMEI numbers to sell them to potential buyers. According to police, the arrests were made on Tuesday. The main accused are Amir Qureshi 20, and Zakhir Qureshi 22. And the two boys (names withheld) were sent to the children’s home in Dongri.
All the four accused are residents of Chorbazar. The four are history-sheeters, who have earlier been booked for similar crimes. On February 28, the boys took away two mobiles from a house on 4th floor, building 92, Memonwada in Pydhonie. According to the complainant, Amreen Patel and his family were home in the afternoon, but their mobiles were missing.
They lodged a theft complaint. Police scanned CCTV footages and zeroed in on the boys. As they were not residents of the building and were history-sheeters, they were easily traced. A case was registered against the boys under sections 380, 411, 380 and 411 of the IPC. The boys were sent to the children’s home and the two accused were produced in a court, which sent them to police custody till March 9.
