Mumbai: BMC urged to maintain single timing for online vax booking slots

In what could save time and cause less inconvenience to people, the BMC has been urged to maintain a single online window to book slots for the Covid vaccine.

Currently, all appointments are booked online through the CoWin app. Even though the BMC has allowed a three-day walk-in registration at the vaccination centres, residents are finding it difficult to get a slot booked. As a result, senior BJP corporator, Abhijeet Samant, has written to the BMC to maintain one regular time to book a slot.

“The time for the online booking changes every day. This is very stressful for people as all the slots get booked with two to three minutes,” said Samant.

The BMC regularly updates the timings of the booking slots on its Twitter handle. However, citizens complain that there are technical glitches in its Twitter threads every day.

Samant added that due to frequent change in timing, many senior citizens face lot of hardships. Some are still waiting to take their second dose.

“The municipal administration must maintain a fixed time regularly for online registration and information of the inventory of stocks and whether doses will be administered the next day or not should be given out by the BMC on its social media platforms,” said Samant.

Meanwhile, civic officials have maintained that all this information will be available soon as the BMC is working towards developing its own mobile application and online vaccine dashboard.

The BMC has already floated the expression of interest for this app last month. According to officials, a pilot version will be live by the end of this month or early next month.

The official also maintained that the change in timings takes place as bookings are opened after evaluating the availability of stocks every day.

However, the officials maintained that booking of vaccine slots must be done only on the CoWin app.

“The CoWin application and dashboard will help the citizens to check the overall availability of stocks, inventory at all the centres, along with other important information,” said a senior BMC official.
