Potholes are considered to be a big menace in Mumbai, so to trace these potholes the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is considering a tie up with private cab aggregators.

According to the Hindustan Times, private cab aggregators have sensors placed inside their vehicles. These sensors count every bump the vehicle experiences owing to potholes. The global positioning system (GPS) installed in the cabs also register the location of the pothole. The BMC has taken this idea from Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. This mechanism has helped the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to repair potholes, based on the data received by the aggregator’s network of cabs.

A BMC official told the leading daily, “We first have to approach the cab aggregator companies and inquire if their fleet of cabs operating in the city consists of such sensors. The idea was floated by the BMC’s information technology (IT) department, and is at a very nascent stage of discussion.”

The richest civic body of the country, BMC, has claimed to have introduced several measures, including cold mix technology, to fill potholes. But every year, potholes are seen on roads, which leads to accidents and flooding during monsoon.
