Mumbai: The BMC has issued a notice to the ‘BEST Value Hyper Market’ building on SV Road, Malad (W), and declared it ‘dilapidated’. No one resides in the building. The building has 266 registered tenants. Of them, 100 were residential and 166 commercial. “The ward office has made various attempts to issue the area certificate to owners/ occupiers, but there is no one to collect it,” said a BMC official.

The BMC notice states the certificate will be available from 10am to 5pm on working days at its Malad office (P/North ward). On November 27 last year, CM Fadnavis had informed the state assembly that Mumbai has 525 unsafe, dilapidated buildings, while Thane district has 72. However, the BMC, in a survey in April 2018, found that 688 buildings were in the ‘C-1’ — dangerously dilapidated — category, of which 163 had been demolished until October 2018.
