Mumbai: The Maharashtra Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday said that the 1.6-kilometre-long elevated connector from the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) will be open to public by the end of July. According to the MMRDA, the 53 metres long girders near Sion and Chunabhatti stations were launched in three operations, each comprising three girders.
The first was launched between 1.06am and 1.34am on Sunday. Likewise, other two girders were launched between 2am and 2.46am on Monday. The remaining set of two girders was launched between 2.22am and 3.18am on Tuesday. The girders were launched only during the the blocks allotted by the Central and the Harbour Railways.
Talking to the FPJ, R A Rajeev, the MMRDA commissioner, said, “It was a complex task, but a great team work was put up by the MMRDA, Railways and contractors to showcase progress on the project of this magnitude. The team showed commitment to the job.”
The Rs155-crore elevated connector from BKC to EEH will decongest traffic in the Sion-Dharavi areas, reducing the distance by 3kms and travel time by 30 minutes.
