Mumbai: A 22-year-old school bus driver, identified as Raj Kumar, on Wednesday was operating a bus using a bamboo stick as a gear lever, was arrested after his bus, carrying students, hit a car in Khar, Police said on Thursday. However, no students were injured in the mishap.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to rash driving on public way (279), causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (338) has been registered against him. “Police questioned the owner of the bus on why a wooden stick was fixed in place of a gear lever.
But right now, all are blaming the driver for the incident”, said Paramjeet Dahiya, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 9, Khar. Podar International School, in a statement, said it was shocked to learn about the mishap. All the students were safe and the school would fully cooperate with the investigations. The driver was later produced in a local court which granted him bail, police said, adding that a probe was under way.
