Mumbai: An incident of broad daylight firing was reported at Saki Naka, Andheri (East) on Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the victim has been identified as Mukhtar Shaikh alias Pappu, and is safe as the bullet missed him by a whisker. Pappu is a contractor for reconstruction of old houses and chawl rooms. The construction business offers tough competition. Pappu was considered successful and was being targeted by rivals.

Little did he know he was being followed. As he was getting out of his car at 2.30pm on Wednesday, the accused, one Vikas Sharma opened fire on him. Pappu had a lucky escape, as the bullet missed him narrowly. Sahar police has registered a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for attempt to murder (section 307).

Sharma is main the accused. Police suspect the involvement of other people also. “Accused Vikas Sharma, 21, was arrested and booked for attempt to kill Pappu. During the interrogation, police learnt there was a dispute between the two over a plot of land. Further investigations are underway,” said a police source. Notably, even Shaikh has a criminal background.
