A group of citizens caught a serial conman who allegedly posed as a politician, director, and producer to cheat dozens of people. The group of citizens decided to nab the conman after they were fed up of police inaction.
According to Mid-Day, the serial conman was identified as Sandeep Aher, who would promise people a flat through his artists' quota or offer them a role in his films. On Friday, Aher was caught outside Andheri railway station. The complainants took help of DN Nagar police chowki outside the station to detain him and handed him over to the Oshiwara police. But the complainants have alleged that a non-cognisable offence report was filed against Aher and he was released in few hours.
Amitraj Surya, a writer-director and a relative of actor Govinda, was one of the victims of Aher. "We worked hard to get him arrested but the cops released him. After I got in touch with the senior officers, they registered an FIR but the accused was released before that," Surya told Mid-Day. Surya met Aher through a common friend. Aher had promised Surya that he will get him an Rs 1.5-crore MHADA flat for just Rs 25 lakh. Aher also took Rs 2,300 from Surya after which he stopped responding to the calls.
On Friday, a meeting was fixed between Aher and Santosh Kulkarni outside Andheri railway station. Santosh Kulkarni works at a production company aided by Surya. The plan was informed to a police officer. After Aher arrived, Kulkarni engaged him into a deliberate argument and the police officer took them to DN Nagar police chowki. Kulkarni too was cheated by Aher for Rs 15,000. The complainants have said that Aher would use his photographs with Bollywood celebrities to gain their trust. Even the Mira Road, Dindoshi, Dahisar, Juhu, Versova, and DN Nagar police have registered a non-cognizable offence against Aher.
