Mumbai: Airtel files FIR against miscreant who cut 56 optical fiber cables

When one of the wires was being repaired, their representatives were allegedly beaten up to keep them away from carrying out the repairs

Mumbai: Samta Nagar Police has booked an unidentified accused for allegedly cutting 56 Optical Fiber Cables (OFC) of Bharti Airtel company in an attempt to sabotage its network in the Kandivali (E) area. The First Information Report (FIR) was registered by police on December 17, wherein the complainant, a company official, said that due to these acts, the company has suffered financial losses.

According to the FIR, whose copy is with The Free Press Journal, states that the service provider was getting complaints from its customers, claiming that they were facing internet connectivity issues, following which the company investigated into these complaints. Their probe revealed after spot visits that 56 cables were cut. Moreover, when one of the wires was being repaired, their representatives were allegedly beaten up to keep them away from carrying out the repairs.

“An executive was repairing OFC in Kandivali (E), when he was attacked and asked not to repair the cable. Subsequently, a non-cognisable complaint was registered at Samta Nagar police station after this incident," read the FIR. These deliberate acts were causing financial losses and acting on this information, an FIR was lodged by the Samta Nagar Police against an unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
