Nagpur: Two days after a senior citizen couple were found murdered in their house on Sunday evening, police arrested their adopted daughter Priyanka and her paramour for the crime.

The deceased couple, identified as Shankar Champati (70) and Seema Champati (60), were found lying in a pool of blood, after they were allegedly hit with an iron rod on their head. The Nagpur wadi police have arrested the duo and booked them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder and common intention.

According to police, the Champati’s adopted daughter Priyanka was a computer engineer working as a project manager at a private company. Priyanka and her father were at loggerheads over her affair with a man, Mohammad Iqlakh Khan (23), who Shankar thought was a no match for his daughter.

When Shankar did not approve of Priyanka’s relation with Iqlakh, the duo hatched a plan to kill the senior citizen couple and get away with the crime. On Sunday afternoon, when the couple was resting, Priyanka and her paramour entered the house and hit them on their heads with an iron in cold blood.

The couple was found murdered in separate rooms of the house and Priyanka then pretended to have discovered their body on the same evening after she returned home. Police said, since the Champati couple was financially sound, they first suspected robbery to be the motive.

However, when only Rs 9,000 was found missing during the investigation, police widened their perspective and began looking for other motives. Police recovered substantial evidence in the crime pointing Priyanka’s involvement, after which she confessed of the crime. Police are on the lookout for Priyanka and Iqlakh’s accomplice, who is believed to be on the run.
