Mumbai: The Crime Branch’s property cell has arrested two history-sheeters accused of stealing nine vehicles worth 70 lakh from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, and Uran. On a tip-off, officers arrested the two accused on February 15. The duo stole vehicles and sold them in other states, including Gujarat and Karnataka, after changing their registration and the chassis numbers.
On the basis of their investigation, police seized a car worth 1,25,000 and a motor trailer worth 8,00,000 in Mumbai and Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai. Vehicles worth 9,25,000 were seized from other undisclosed locations based on the confessions of the accused.
During the course of interrogation, the accused also confessed to stealing three trailers and the motor of a trailer from Kalamboli, five dumpers, two from Panvel and Vadhkal Naka each and one from Uran. Total nine vehicles worth 70 lakh were stolen. Further probe is on, said police.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and motors vehicle Act. The accused were produced in a court and sent to police custody till February 22, added police.
