Mumbai A six-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by an unidentified man in Jogeshwari (E) on Monday night. The girl was raped in a public toilet after she was lured with a chocolate and taken there. The MIDC police have booked an unidentified man under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the police, the minor girl, a resident of a chawl at Gopi Nagar, at Jogeshwari (E), was lured to a secluded place behind her chawl by an unidentified man on Monday night. The accused man took the girl inside a public toilet, where he allegedly raped her. After the incident, the girl returned home crying and reiterated her trauma to her parents.
Shocked, the parents approached MIDC police on Monday night and registered a case of rape against an unknown person. Nitin Alaknure, a senior police inspector of MIDC police station, said that the police are investigating the matter and have booked the unidentified accused under relevant sections of the IPC for rape (section 376) and POCSO Act.
“We are scrutinising the CCTV footage of the area to identify the accused. The investigation is underway and the accused will soon be arrested,” said Alaknure. Police sources said they have detained a suspect whose appearance matches with that of the accused. The suspect has been sent for medical tests.
