Mumbai: 6-hour mega block to hit passengers on Central Railway

Mumbai: This weekend will be a family time for most of the commuters travelling by Central line, but their plans, it seems, won’t be realised. Reason? The six-hour mega block between Kalyan and Dombivali stations for dismantling 104-year-old Patri Pool.

The block will be from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. During the block, local trains will run between Dombivali and CSMT. The CR has cancelled 170 suburban and 14 intercity train services (linking Mumbai to Pune and Nashik) in view of the dismantling work. For the convenience of passengers during the block, the CR will run 120 special services between Dombivali and CSMT and beyond Kalyan.

Meanwhile, the railway passengers’ association has raised the need for more bus service on Sunday. “The block is essential for the demolition work. The railways should inform the civic body and state transport to provide extra buses for the day,” said Shyam Ubale, general secretary, Kalyan- Kasara- Karjat railway passengers’ association. The bridge dismantling will be undertken by Central Railway’s construction department. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation will construct a new bridge in its place.

Long-distance passengers may also face hurdles, as 15 trains will be diverted and 10 will be regulated. In addition, eight trains have been re-scheduled and four short-terminated. The CR shut the bridge in August following the IIT-Bombay experts classified the bridge as unsafe and unfit for traffic.

Sunil Udasi, CPRO, CR said the Railways was trying to minimise the impact of the block on outstation trains. During the block, traffic on all the six lines between Dombivali and Kalyan will be suspended. “For passengers, we’ll run 120 special trains.”
