Mumbai: 50-year-old man arrested for stealing cousin’s mangalsutra to clear medical bills

MUMBAI: The Dadar police on Monday a 50-year-old Vithal Tambade for running away with his cousin sisters mangalsutra.

According to the police, the accused is said to be suffering from varicose veins and to treat his disease he was forced to steal his cousin’s mangalsutra. In January, this year Vitthal came to Mumbai from Ratnagiri for his treatment and stayed at his sisters Prabhadevi residence.

Within few days he went back to his native place, after he left his cousin realised that her mangalsutra was missing, when she confronted Vithal brother he accepted of stealing it, but assured that he will return in few days. “I was in need of money so I stole mangalsutra” he claimed to sister.


Later on various occasions accused assured her of returning the mangalsutra but even after four months he failed to return it. After a complaint was registered at Dadar police arrested him from Ratnagiri. Monday he was produced in Bhoiwada court which sent him in police custody till Wednesday.
