In a shocking incident, on Friday a 19-year-old boy committed suicide in Kurla allegedly after elder brother refused to give him cash to buy an expensive mobile phone which was better suited for online gaming.
According to Indian Express, the deceased has been identified as Nadeem Shaikh (19), who worked as a delivery boy for a restaurant in Kurla West and lived with his elder brother, Irfan (25) and mother. The incident came to light when Nadeem’s body was spotted by his mother. He had hung himself with a rope in the kitchen. After discovering Nadeem’s body, Irfan informed the police, who then rushed Nadeem to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
On the day of Nadeem had asked Irfan for money to buy a new smartphone. An officer from Nehru Nagar police station told the leading daily, “He had asked for Rs 37,000 to buy a phone that has a better screen and specifications. His brother gave him Rs 20,000 and asked him to buy a phone that costs less than that. He had fights with his brother over this.” Irfan refused to give Nadeem money as they couldn’t afford it. Nadeem’s friends from the locality have said that he had a smartphone but wanted a better one so that he could play online game Players Unknown Battle-Ground (PUBG).
