Mumbai : A mother has been arrested for the brutal murder of her 31-year-old son, who was against her relationship with their driver.
The accused, Cecilia D’souza (54), was on Friday arrested by the Bangur Nagar police for conspiring to murder her son Ronald D’souza (33). On December 9, Ronald was found dead with multiple stab wounds on his body. Cecilia had claimed to have discovered the body after she came back from a walk. She had left the house at 9.30 pm and returned at 11 pm to find Ronald lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom.
An FIR was filed by Cecilia who informed the police that a mobile phone and a gold chain had been stolen from Ronald. The police, during investigation, found that the motive of the murder was not robbery and it was enacted to mislead the investigators. Cecilia lived in Pai Mansion in Malad with Ronald and daughter Jenny D’souza (26), who is a cabin crew member with an airline company.
According to the police, the CCTV footage showed two men, one of whom was the driver entering the building around 9.30 pm on the day of the incident. The men allegedly had the key and were waiting in the D’souza residence for Ronald. Cecelia, who was part of the plan, left for a night stroll to escape suspicion.
Further investigation revealed that Cecelia had been in a relationship with the 25-year-old driver for more than a year. “The driver would visit the arrested accused in her house and they would also go on long drives in the car. This was opposed by the both the children of the accused. They would regularly have fights and arguments in the house,” a senior officer said.
The problems escalated when their father (Cecilia’s husband) passed away a year ago. “Ronald had allegedly started foiling the meeting plans of Cecelia and the driver. He wanted them to stop meeting and talking to each other,” the officer said.
This angered Cecilia who, along with the driver, decided to murder Ronald. For this, the driver and another unidentified man entered the house and lay in wait for him. An unsuspecting Ronald returned home around 10.30 pm and was attacked by the two men. They stabbed him on the hands, things and abdomen with a sharp knife and left the house.
Cecilia has been remanded in police custody till December 17. The police are still on the lookout for the driver and his accomplice.
