Aurangabad : To curb pick-pocketing and eve-teasing in the vicinity of Ajanta Caves, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation authorities are planning to install more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Only a few months ago, this world heritage site was brought under the surveillance of 27 high density cameras. The authorities are planning to install more CCTV cameras from the starting point of the Ajanta Caves road.
The 27 CCTV cameras are installed at Ajanta Caves, near the ticket counter, viewpoint and garden.
The decision to place more CCTV cameras at the site comes in the wake of a rise in incidents of pick pocketing and eve teasing targeting tourists. Anti-social elements operate in areas which are out of range of the CCTV cameras.
With tourist season already underway, scores of domestic as well as foreign tourists are expected to converge at the caves during Christmas.
Tourists come to Ajanta by private vehicles, embark at T-point and proceed towards the caves by eco-friendly buses.
