Beed: A pregnant woman in Beed, who went to the hospital expecting to deliver twins, ended up giving birth to triplets on Wednesday, a surprise neither she nor the doctors had expected. A sonography carried out earlier in her pregnancy had revealed she was carrying twins. When she developed labour pains, she was taken to the Swami Ramanand Teertha rural medical college hospital at Ambajogai in Beed.
Two hours after she was admitted, she delivered twins. However, her contractions did not stop. Puzzled, the doctors carried out an examination and to their surprise, there was another baby waiting to emerge. At the end of the process, there were three bundles of joy for the new mother to hold -- a girl weighing 2 kilograms and two boys weighing 1.5 kilograms each. As the boys are are underweight, they are being kept under observation.
