Mumbai : A local court on Tuesday remanded the three policemen who used to be attached with the Sakinaka police and five of their informers, who have been accused of raping a Mumbai-based model and extorting from her and her male friend, to judicial custody.
The judge who was presiding on the case at the Esplanande Court at Azad Maidan at 3 pm, observed that a majority of the Rs 4.5 lakh that was extorted from the duo has been recovered by the police and that there is no need to further interrogate them. The eight accused are Assistant Police Inspectors Sunil Khatpe (34), Suresh Suryavanshi, Constable Yogesh Ponde (36), and informers Ibrahim Khan (42), Ayesha Malviya (24), Sanjay Ranga (34), Javed Sheikh (35), and Tanveer Hashmi (34).
The three cops and five informers arrested for raping and extorting a model and her male friend were remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.
Although the cops argued to get an additional two days’ custody in order to recover Rs 85,000, and to trace Aman, the model’s coordinator. Aman had allegedly told her to go to the hotel, Holiday Inn, which is one of the spots where the alleged incident started from.
