Bhayandar : Insisting for a prescription to dispense scheduled drugs proved near-fatal for a 50-year-old, medical store owner and his employees in Nallasopara, when a group of unidentified men not only assaulted them, but also ransacked the store, late on Friday night.
According to the police, an unidentified man walked into Raj-Sukh Medical and General Stores, in the Taaki Pad area of Nallasopara (East) and asked for a strip of Alprax or Calmpose tablets, since the medicine are tranquilisers which come under the scheduled drug category, Bhagat insisted on a doctor’s prescription. Irate over Bhagat’s refusal, the accused along with his 8 to 10 accomplices mounted a violent attack on Bhagat and his four staffers. The miscreants then ransacked the shop by breaking glass showcases, before decamping with Rs 22, 000 cash kept in the counter. While a case under sections 147, 148 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered, the police have detained one suspect to question his alleged role into the crime.
It should be noted that as per the Drug and Cosmetic Control Act, scheduled drugs can’t be sold without a doctor’s prescription.
