Mumbai :  The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) students’ wing has demanded a five-day holiday for all schools, including aided, unaided, municipal and convents schools, and university students in the city during the Ganesh Utsav.

During the last academic year of 2014-15, the state government had made a provision to give a five-day holiday to all schools. However, in the present academic year of 2015-16, the same provision has not been made by the state. MNS student wing president Aditya Shirodakr said, “We have learned that the state government has not made the provision of five days off for Ganesh Utsav in the current academic year. Ganesh Utsav is one of the biggest public as well as domestic festivals in the city.”

He added, “Our delegation had met the deputy director of primary education and demanded a five-day holiday for Ganesh Utsav.”

Last year, the state had given a holiday only to primary and high-school students. This time, the MNS delegation, along with senate member Sudhakar Tamboli, met the VC of the University of Mumbai to discuss the issue of giving a holiday to university students as well.
