UMBAI: Firstly, the MMRDA will be constructing the Operations and Control (O&C) building to monitor the upcoming metro corridors. A senior MMRDA official said, "This building structure will be in round shape comprising of six-storeys. The proposed 32-storeyed Metro Bhavan will be raised under this building."
MMRDA sources revealed that the project has been divided into phases as there are certain issues associated with it like some additional land is required for the Metro Bhavan. Moreover, the burning issue of the proposed Metro-3 (Colaba--Bandra--SEEPZ) car shed in Aarey requires hacking of nearly 2,702 trees, which is being strongly opposed by citizens and environmentalists. "Since two metro corridors -- Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E) (Metro 7) and Dahisar to D N Nagar (Metro 2A) are expected to start next year, therefore, the authority requires a place to monitor these lines.
Therefore, to avoid any hurdles the O&C building will be constructed," informed the source. The MMRDA has proposed 800 square metres of land for the construction of Metro Bhavan in Aarey that will be used as headquarters for the 200-kilometres of the metro network. The Bhavan will also have houses for officials and commercial offices which will be leased out as per the plans.
