Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has extended the deadline for 16 days for the proposed helipad in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

The authority had called an expression of interest and the deadline for interested companies to submit the plan was June 10, which has been now extended to June 26. According to an MMRDA official, a site inspection was fixed on May 7 and considering suggestions by the interested companies the date has been extended.

The MMRDA is the special planning authority (SPA) in BKC and has proposed helipad here, as it already falls under the funnel zone restriction area. An official from MMRDA said, “In BKC-G block the helipad has been proposed but the exact location is yet to be finalised. If everything goes as per the plan, getting permissions from the civil aviation authority will not be a big task.”

The MMRDA has proposed helipad so to generate revenue out of it. Through the revenue, the authority will repay the loan taken for infrastructure projects, including the Metro. Currently, it has undertaken infrastructure projects worth `1 lakh crore.

The officials believe that as BKC is located centrally and being a commercial hub housing several corporate offices, due to the proposed International Financial Centre (IFC) and bullet train terminal, the proposed helipad project will be essential and the demand for it will be high.
