The aim is to help citizens address rain-related problems
Mumbai : This monsoon, in case bad roads or fallen trees obstruct your way, you can seek help from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which will be setting up a control room to address monsoon-related problems. This control room will also keep a close watch on all the construction sites in the city to ensure that pedestrians and the motorists are not inconvenienced.
The control room will be especially monitoring construction sites, such as the one for the monorail system, where problems of water-logging are often reported. There will be water pumps of adequate capacity set up at these sites, where there is no connectivity to the storm water drainage system, for the easy flow of water.
Joint project director of MMRDA Dilip Kawatkar said, “We receive several calls from people during the monsoon. Depending on the nature of the problem, we will inform the department concerned and ensure that the problem is resolved as soon as possible.”
Moreover, all the contractors working for MMRDA have also been instructed to reinstate the roads and ensure that there are no construction sites that are left without proper barricading, and that the muck from the sites is also disposed of.
The control room will work round-the-clock with five nodal officers deployed at varied points of time. Through these control rooms, people can also get information on traffic problems, potholes, accidents and fallen trees, amongst other information.
“The contractors will also maintain dewatering pumps of adequate capacity where there is no connectivity to storm water drains, and also at water-logged spots,” Kawathkar added.
