Bhayandar : In a well-executed case of gold theft, the manager of a reputed jewellery retail showroom in Mira Road was arrested by the Naya Nagar police after he was found to be involved in stealing small quantities of ornaments over a period of six months.

Police said the matter was reported from Shanti Nagar based-Goodwin Jewellers, after the group management  conducted an internal audit and found a massive mismatch of gold and it was learned that jewellery worth more than Rs 11 lakh was missing. Following this, a complaint was registered at the police station.

Since the CCTV cameras had not captured anything unusual, the management and the police right from the beginning suspected an inside hand in the crime.

A police team led by PSI Balchim swung into action and began questioning the staff and zeroed it on the store manager, Pranav Kansara (30).

“He was taken into custody and after rounds of sustained interrogation, confessed of his involvement in the theft. While stolen booty worth Rs 5.30 lakh was recovered from his possession, the remaining he spent to support his lavish lifestyle and splurging in bars,” Balchim said.

A resident of Bhayandar, Kansara had joined the firm in June this year. He has booked under IPC sections 420 and 406.
