Mira Road by-polls: BJP, Cong in a straight fight

Bhayandar : It will be a straight fight between the BJP and the Congress for the by-election to ward no 38 (B) in the MBMC. The elections were necessitated following the resignation of sitting corporator-Dipti Bhatt, who had wrestled the ward on a Congress ticket in the 2012 civic polls. Bhatt recently tendered her resignation, to jump into the BJP bandwagon.

While Bhatt is now contesting the by-polls on a BJP ticket, the Congress has replaced her with another youth face in the form of Prita Chavhan-a medical counselor working with a hospital in Mira Road.

Both the BJP and Congress are being backed by their traditional alliance partners-Shiv-Sena and NCP respectively.  Although two others including- Preksha Samant and Vandana Bhavsar also filed their nominations, they are being seen as dummy candidates.
