Thanks to the alertness shown by a jeweller, a 22-year-old woman landed into custody of the Bhayandar police for allegedly trying to sell fake gold earrings and a finger ring to purchase a gold chain worth more than Rs. 27,000, in return. The woman walked into Panchratna Jewellers in Bhayandar (west) at around 1:30 pm on Saturday. She expressed her interest to purchase a gold chain but offered to sell her old earrings and finger ring in exchange.
When the woman expressed her inability to show the purchase bills of the old gold, the owner got suspicious. In the meantime, his employees got the gold checked, it turned out to be fake. The jeweller immediately informed the police who arrived at the spot and detained the woman who is said to be a resident of Naigaon in Vasai. A case under section 420 of the IPC has been registered against the woman. Further investigations were underway.
