Mira Bhayandar: Thane police arrest 55-year-old town planner in ULC scam

Thane: The Thane police have arrested a 55-year-old town planner of Mira-Bhayander Municipal corporation on Friday. The accused Dilip Gheware, an accused in the multi-crore ULC scam, was absconding from the past many days. The Thane crime branch central unit team arrested him from Surat in Gujarat.

The police said Gheware was absconding from the last two weeks. After which a search operation to trace him was initiated by the police. Meanwhile, he applied for anticipatory bail in the Thane session court.

Anil Honrao, senior police inspector, Central Unit of Thane crime branch confirmed about his arrest from Surat and said, "Gheware was produced in court on Friday and remanded in police custody till June 28", addee Honrao.

The police probing the matter objected the bail application claiming Gheware to be the mastermind in the scam and that they had too investigated the fact.

On June 10, the police arrested three including Chandrashekar alias Shekar Limiya (55), assistant to architect, Satyavan Dhanegave (54), retired in June 2017, who was working as town planner for Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and Bharat Kamble (56), a junior draftsman at assistant director town planning office, Palghar. The police were in search of Dilip Gheware, a town planner at MBMC.

A case was registered at Thane Nagar police station on November, 2016 under section 420, 467, 470, 471 and 120 (b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

After the case was registered, the police arrested five accused including a builder. The accused had obtained benefit under the ULC by showing a residential plot as agricultural land.
