Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s (MBMC) chief fire officer Prakash Borade has bagged this year's coveted Vocational Excellence Award of the Rotary Club of Mira Road in appreciation for the excellent services and leadership rendered by him in keeping the twin-city a safe and secure place to live in. The award was announced in a digital ceremony held through video conferencing on Sunday.
Apart from various other accomplishments in effectively tackling emergency cases handled by the fire brigade, Borade was appreciated for his efforts towards timely evacuation and controlling a massive blaze which had broken out in LPG cylinder-laden trucks which were parked in an open ground amidst a cluster of residential buildings in the Ram Nagar area of Mira Road in February 2021 and his active role in diffusing the crisis erupted after a chlorine gas leakage was reported in a civic-run water treatment plant in Bhayandar in January 2018.
Several buildings were evacuated and the chlorine cylinder was loaded into a pickup van and disposed of in the Bhayandar creek, as the salt content in its water could neutralise the chlorine’s effect.
“I am really privileged to receive this award. However, the credit belongs to my entire team who have dutifully and fearlessly stood by me to face such situations and ensured minimum damage to property and lives of citizens,” said Borade who has cheated death by defeating Covid-19 after battling the virus for nearly a month in June last year.
Be it sanitization of containment zones or disinfecting roads and public places, Borade was always on the frontline while taking all the measures to fight back the pandemic, with a smile.
