Bhayandar : Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) corporator in the MBMC, Hemant Mhatre, was unanimously elected as the president of the Mira Bhayandar unit of the party on Saturday.
A die hard party loyalist, Mhatre (50) has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since childhood and has shouldered various responsibilities including general secretary and organisation chief of the local BJP unit.
He was recently nominated for the post of co-opted corporator in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) and will take charge from legislator Narendra Mehta to hold the district chief post for a term of three years.
“Mhatre is the right mix of energy and experience and we are sure he will keep in pace with the excellent performance displayed by his predecessor and further strengthen party’s prospects in the region,” said BJP leader and Mayor Geeta Jain.
