Mumbai: Yet again the ratio of number applicants to the available affordable houses in Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s (MHADA) lottery scheme, seems to be always on the rise. In the current lottery of Mumbai Board of MHADA, 66,078 homebuyers have applied for 217 houses, which is 304 applicants for every one house. These houses will be on sale on June 2.
According to a senior MHADA official, this time, the applications received by the authority were record-breaking, as never before they witnessed such a tremendous response. One of the reasons they believe is because, interested homebuyers got more time to apply for these lottery houses as the last date was extended due to the model code of conduct. These 217 houses are in the categories of lower and middle- income groups (LIG and MIG) and are mainly located in Sahakar Nagar in Chembur and Kopri Village in Powai. MHADA has included 170 LIG and 47 MIG houses for this lottery. Only those with an average monthly income between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 can apply for the LIG homes and those with incomes between Rs 50,000 and Rs75,000 can apply for the MIG category.
