Bhayandar : If you are a resident of the twin-city of Mira-Bhayandar and are facing a medical emergency, you are advised not to bank upon the ambulance services provided by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC). The reason is that most of the dedicated helpline numbers to the civic body’s emergency wing have been snapped allegedly due to the non-payment of dues.
The matter came to light when NCP member Dhruvkishore Patil dialled one of the numbers to ferry a patient to hospital in a civic ambulance and soon realised that all the emergency numbers publicised by the MBMC had stopped working.
The administrative wing confirmed that the phone lines had been snapped for non-payment of dues.
Surprisingly the average bi-monthly bills for the eight telephone connections for emergency calls is said to be around Rs 3,000.
Blaming the service provider for their delay in dispatching the telephone bills, which might have led to this blunder, a civic personnel said, “We never keep the bills pending once we receive it. They are immediately verified and forwarded for disbursement.”
