An illegal structure is being razed in Bhayandar (west)
Bhayandar : The imposition of the election code of conduct for ensuing assembly elections seems to have provided a perfect opportunity for the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to crackdown on illegal structures built by influential people who had managed to evade action due to their political connections.
An anti-encroachment squad led by ward officer Vasant Rane on Monday demolished the office of Sudama Builders that had grossly violated the rules by occupying the open space in Ruchi Tower, Bhayandar (west).
Built illegally more than 15 years back, the builder had managed to procure a stay from the lower court which was vacated six months back. Thanks to political interference, the MBMC had dragged its feet from initiating demolition proceedings. However, since the recent imposition of model code of conduct, the MBMC has apparently drawn an elaborate plan to crack down on illegal constructions.
“Extra care is now being taken to regularly monitor cases pertaining to illegal structures which have been shielded by stay orders issued by the judiciary,” revealed demolition-in-charge Shrikrishna Mohite.
