Bhayandar : After cracking down on illegal shops, bungalows and industrial units, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), seems to have taken a tough stand against multi-storey towers that have been illegally constructed by fly-by-night builders.

Following the direction of civic chief, Suresh Kakani, a demolition squad led by in-charge, Srikrishna Mohite, started knocking down interior walls in the units of a seven-storey tower in the Pleasant Park area of Mira Road. All the seven floors had been illegally constructed by Chavhan Builders, (Survey Number: 469 Old, 143 New) in total defiance of law more than four years ago. “The structure is totally illegal. The builder had managed to procure a stay which had been recently vacated,” said Mohite.

While civic personnel were deployed for manual demolition, the MBMC used Jack Hammers to create large holes on the flooring of the common passages of each storey. The civic administration claims to have already registered a case under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP) at the local police station against the construction company.
