Mayor’s statement leaves Sena leaders in the lurch
Mumbai : The rift between Shiv Sena and BJP is widening every day, with verbal squabbles between the leaders of the two parties increasing. On Monday, BJP leaders were very angry with Mayor Snehal Ambekar as she compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Hitler in an interview given to city-based English daily.
Recently, verbal war between Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and BJP city chief Ashish Shelar was on very high regarding issues like LED lights on Marine Drive. Again there were disputes between these two leaders over the issue of high court order about Pandals . Thackeray directed his party corporators to target Ashish Shelar.
“I admire Narendra Modi for his self-reliant way of working. But at some level, I feel his rule is quite like Hitler,” said Ambekar in the interview.
Ambekar’s comments were the latest in a series of the barbs the Shiv Sena has fired at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Both parties are allies in the centre, state and the BMC.
After mayor’s statement the Shiv Sena leaders in BMC are trying to save mayor. Trishna Vishwasrao, Shiv Sena leader in the BMC, said, “Mayor didn’t make such statement.”
Standing committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse also denied such statement from the mayor.
Manoj Kotak, BJP group leader in BMC, didn’t react on it but he called on mayor in the morning. She also denied making the statement. Mayor told Kotak that the statement was exaggerated.
While, Ashish Shelar also refused to comment. “I don’t want to comment on such issues,” he said.
