Mumbai: Colaba police have arrested a 47-year-old man for running away with the mobile phones of a Pune-based teacher. The accused has been identified as Sirhan Shah. As per the allegations, Shah called the woman to meet him but fled away with her mobiles. Shah, a resident of Charni Road, met a Pune-based 41-year-old woman on a matrimonial site, the woman is a teacher by profession. Shah presented himself as a professional working for a Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) firm. He told the woman he is looking for a good life partner. After a formal introduction, both exchanged numbers and they started chatting and talking regularly.
According to the allegations, Shah called the woman to come to Mumbai on his father’s birthday on June 12. Shah even asked her to bring a phone for his father, and he said he will pay her once she would come to Mumbai. As per Shah’s instructions, the woman came to Mumbai on June 12 with a new phone. After taking the phone, Shah assured her of giving her the money. He took her to a 5-star hotel in South Mumbai. After having tea, Shah pretended his phone’s battery was low. He took her phone to make an urgent call. As soon as the lady gave her the phone, Shah pretended to talk to someone and fled the hotel. After waiting for an hour, she paid the bill and came out in search of Shah, but to no avail. She tried to contact him, his phone was off. Then, she lodged an FIR at Colaba police station. Police arrested the accused from Charni Road. On Saturday, he was produced in a court, which sent him to police custody.
