Mumbai: Wearing a T-shirt with a message ‘March to the Sun’, a group marched from NCPA, Nariman Point to Girgaum Chowpatty on Sunday.
This 4.2-km-long walk was organised by IIT-Bombay in view of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. Speaking to the Free Press Journal, IIT-B professor, Chetan Singh Solanki, said, “We are organising a march 150 days before the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The initiative, ‘March to Sun’, is part of Gandhi Global Solar Yatra.”
“If you ask me the reason for naming it ‘March to the Sun’,” he stated the number 150 again. “As the Sun is 150 million kms away,” he added. He said under the initiative they are connecting with 150 countries, urging them to walk for not just this cause. The walk will be traced by an application. Every kilometre you walk Rs10 will be donated for a cause.
The march in Mumbai was supported by around 150 people from all age groups— from kids to elderly. “We had pre-registration for this march. Surprisingly, we had 50 on-spot registration also.” Now that the Mumbai walk is over, he hopes to connect with his counterparts in other nations.
