Mumbai : A 26-year-old man who had sustained severe burn injures while repairing his car inside the IIT-Bombay campus breathed his last at Masina Hospital in Byculla.
The victim, Vishwas More, was cleaning the fuel tank of his car on October 25 and had collected the mucky petrol in a bucket. While working, he had spilled some petrol on his clothes too. As he threw the residue on the dried grass nearby which was already burning, huge flames erupted and came in contact with his clothes.
More’s friends rushed him to Mahatma Phule Municipal General Hospital in Vikhroli where he was given primary aid and was shifted to Sion hospital. He had sustained 80% burns. After his condition worsened, he was shifted to Masina Hospital.
According to the Rambaug police, Vishwas in his statement, had said that he had recently got engaged and was to get married soon. More’s father was a staff at the campus and although they had shifted out of the campus after his father’s retirement, More was in touch with his friends at IIT and would often keep the vehicle inside the campus.
A case of accidental death has been registered.
